Reply with quote | #1 | Many schools in new york do not allow students to bring their cell phones to school. IPods & PSP's -i can understand, because they do distract students from learning but cell phones, i dont understand. If you go to a school in Queens, it doesnt mean that all 800 students enrolled live in Queens. What about the students that live in Brooklyn? Or Far Rock? What about them? Shouldnt they be allowed to bring cell phones/ i mean not everybody goes straight home afterschool; some students have jobs or aftershool activites & need their phones to contact their parents. What do you feel about this topic? Do you agreee or disagree??

What is your point? That's not at all why they are banned.

Reply with quote | #5 | cells should be allowed for emergency reasons, left on during school hours but only used in an emergency, i myself am writing a report on this and i think its crucial to have cell phones around at all times. Besides if theres an emergency at school and no one has cell phones, what happens if the normal phone ;ine goes dead, what would happen then? |

I am writing an essay on this subject because cell phones are being banned in our town. But cell phones can be very useful. If something like 9 11 happened again my parents would want to make sure I was safe.Or if my dad was in a car accident, i wouldn't want a note from the office, i would want to talk to them.Or even if my parents aren't going to be home when i get off my bus, it would be nice to know. What if when i got off my bus someone grabbed me and shoved me in their car? and i was trapped in their car? i could call 911 and not say anything, just let them listen, or text that i was in trouble. With out a phone i could be done for. Just something for the school boards of the world to think about.Peace out!!!!-Megan |

NO! They are a distraction. If there is a real emergency, the school will be able to handle any needed communication. |

What makes people think cell phones are only for texting and IMing?? Did ever occur to any of you that they have their phones because it may be vital to have them in an emergency or because their parents tell them to have them? A lot of high schoolers don't go straight home after school and they need them for their job. Not all teens text, and adults need to stop that stereotype. |
