Reply with quote | #211 | There are many reasons why people use drugs. Initially, I believe you have to be exposed to drugs to even know about them. After that, curiosity sets in and you want to try it yourself. If you like the high or the way the drug makes you feel, more than likely you will try it again and again and again. The problem is that, you don't know or understand the long term effects that these drugs have on your body and brain development. I used to think that marijuana was harmless. While I was using it, it did not occur to me, that I was causing damage to my lungs and at the same time, I was also burning much needed brain cells. Today, I believe that my long term use of marijuana effected my memory. Despite the fact that I discontinued smoking in my early 20's, I have such a hard time remembering things now. A drug education class was very helpful to me. I think that every teenager should take a class in order to be completely aware of the effects of drugs on the body and brain. This will assist them in making informed decisions about using drugs. |

Reply with quote | #214 | i started experimenting with drugs because i wanted to find out for myself what it was. No one pressured me in to it. It was five years ago that i started with marijuana and slowly progressed in to other harder drugs like ecstasy mushrooms and acid. and that's where it stopped progressing i never have wanted to do anything else. I wouldn't say that i have a bad life i just started collage this year and graduated with 3.7 GPA. It depends on a person. there isn't one dominant right reason why teens do drugs everyone has their own reasons. just like you cant ask why fat people don't exercise to get skinny and answer it for all of them with because they are lazy.

I think some teens do drugs because they are having problems and they think its the only way to get away from it. At least thats why i started doing drugs. I dont think that peer pressure has anything to do with it. People cant make you do something. I dont beleive they do it to look cool. There is other ways to do that and teens know that.

Reply with quote | #216 | Ok, so I know most adults think it's peer pressure that causes kids to start doing drugs. It kinda has to do with that, because you need to get it from someone right ? You don't just start doing it by yourself . But in my case, me and a few friends went to someone's apartment before a dance once and they were doing it. They asked us if we wanted some , and we tried it. It wasn't because we felt pressured to do it, we just thought it would be fun to try. Because marijauna isn't as bad for you as smoking or drinking. And since then, we do it because there is nothing else to do when we hangout . My town is a very small town, and if you don't have a fourwheeler or a snowmobile or any cool toys liek that, theres really nothing to do than just sit around with friends. That gets pretty boring. So when we do smoke weed, we can laugh at random things and have a good time.

Reply with quote | #217 | I laugh at the people who say its because they want to fit in. Thats not the case, were im from its not really cool to smoke, and if a group of people are smoking together its because they are already comfortable with each other and there is no need to feel the urge to fit in. The truth is its a way to get away from societys pressure. We go to school over 35 hours a week, we have over 35 hours of homework, on top of sports, extra curricular activities, and jobs. So when you parents are pissed off if your kids are doing drugs I suggest you lay off. We need room in life to do what we enjoy. As long as your kids are good students, and have a good attitude about life. lay off em. |

i am 16 and am gay. i do drugs because im depressed and they make me feel better in the short term, although i do think they have made me even more depressed over the long term. i dont think there is anything morally wrong with drugs as they harm no-one but yourself. I think it is a disgrace that they are illegal and that drug dealers are viewed as one of the worst type of criminals. After all bartenders and people that work in breweries are also drug dealers...

Reply with quote | #223 | Excuse me greg, But that i think is a horrible statement. I am a teen that had struggled with a drug problem thank you very much. I am currently sitting in my class room looking for research on teens and drugs use, which is why i stummbled onto this website. Any teen can have a drug problem. Intellegence has nothing to do with it, and I think that that was very rude. You dont understand. It doesnt matter who you are, how you think or how much money you have. It doesnt matter what race what ancestory or education. It depends on how the person feels. Thats why communication is key to help. It makes them feel good, feel like they are having fun, but when you cannot have fun anyother way. That is addiction. Thank you very much, i just thought that was something you needed to know.

Reply with quote | #224 | I always hear the #1 reason for drugs is wanting to fit in. I've never actually believed that. Around here, you don't see someone smoking and think, "Wow! They're cool!" You also don't look at someone in a picture who is completely drunk and maybe smoking a joint and say, "Cool!" It's looked at more of a 'badass' thing. It's not cool, but it's not considered lame (to most people at least). I do believe the #1 reason is because they're alone, they're empty or depressed, or they're curious. I also never believed in peer pressure. I've never been peer pressured before, and I've never seen anyone give in to peer pressure. To me, there is something about drugs that draws me in. Something about drugs that makes me want them. I find myself sitting and thinking of drugs every day: what I would do, how it would be. I've never actually done any type of drug, but I plan on it to experiment. Everyone makes their own choices, it's okay.
