What about all this discussion concerning the secret efforts of the CIA and multinational corporations undermining the sovereignty and lives of other countries and peoples?

Has this been going on since the end of WWII?

Watch Free Speech TV and Democracy Now.

I'm not sure why the world hates Americans... could it be because we have a tendency to stick our noses where they don't belong or take the law into our own hands by starting a war that was never needed? Before I am criticized for that previous comment let me just say, there is very little reason to argue about the war. Ask yourselves this, is there a difference between national security and murdering innocent children in a witch hunt?

America's politicians say one thing and do another, and the rest of the world has come to realize that; and when our decisions don't turn out to be in their best interest, their ire is directed towards us. We can't help it if the men representing our country are corrupt and selfish... or can we? I say we can, but being so divided has made our political system stall in its own excrement. If we want something to be done, the American public needs to join together. Hitler conquered Europe because no one would stand together until it was too late... if we don't stand together what will we accomplish?

To my mind, the question itself is suspect.

It is tempting, I know, to want to provide an answer because an answer suggests a solution. But, I would note that the question has no answer. Here's why.

First, the world is not the type of thing that can hate; only people (perhaps non-people animals) can hate. So, then, the question becomes why do people in the world hate the USA? But, now, notice that not all people in the world hate the USA. On closer reflection, one realizes that different people hate the USA for different reasons. As it turns out, I believe, some people hate the USA for reasons that others love the USA. So what appears as a simple question with a narrow solution morphs into a tangle of questions with (at best) conflicting solutions.

Secondly, for the most part, perhaps exclusively, hate is an irrational (non-pragmatic) emotion. Yet, the question of "why does the world hate the USA?" invites us to think that hate is the causal output of US policy activities. But, by denying that hate is rational, one disolves the causal link between US policy actions and the hateful response of some people in the world. So, again, this line of thinking eats away at the underlying notion that there is a simple solution to keeping people form hating the USA.

Sorry if i hurt your american Ego by calling u naive sheep etc, but u should be the one to open your eyes and see the picture of what's going on in da world right now.
The middle East to be exact.
1: Iraq... No comment
2. Ur Aid to Israels aggression.
3. Your patriotism. Like, My son is fighting for the USA's domination of Iraqis oil, so it is undoubtable that it's right. Terrorists, aaaa, Bin Laden. Well, terrorism is just a stupid excuse to take over the middle easts rich lands.

Just putting all these posts together there are several questions that come to mind:

first, If America rocks, then can rocks hate?

second, if you throw a rock at me, make contact, and it hurts, should I blame you, or the rock?

finally, should I blame anyone, or did I deserve to get hit with a rock because America invaded Iraq?

Someone please help me (or hit me).

Seriously though, are we really having a discussion about the merits of nationalism? The US has the highest incarceration rate in the world, and a higher murder rate than many countries in which there are 'official' wars going on. Maybe what we should be asking is why does the USA hate Americans. I'd tell you why but my favorite TV show is about to come on.

I really think that people hate the United States of America out of pure ingnorance. I bet dollars to donuts that there would be a nuke going off all the time in different countries if the government didn't snoop peoples e-mail, phone, etc. Without them following leaders and potencially "breaking the right to free speech", they would most likely be dead and not be able to say that at all. I think the government and it's agencies have a not only a right but a responibility to do take these measures. And really, anyone mad about them snooping their e-mail are probably the people they are snooping their e-mail in the first place! I think it is okay, I mean you either get your skinned boiled off by a nuke or blown up by a concussion bonmb, or people snoop your e-mail. And they don't look at people's e-mails for gossip, they are looking through people's e-mail who could be a possible threat to their country and others.

Also I misread the original question. Oops. And anyway, it is the countries poragative to attack another country, and if they do well it was their choice and there was probably a reason for it (hopefully rather than just hating that nationality). But it is not only the United States; I would reckon all first world countries are, and will be in the future. "What about all this discussion concerning the secret efforts of the CIA and multinational corporations undermining the sovereignty and lives of other countries and peoples?" They are not undermining anyone. They are doing what they think is best for their country. I am also, for the record, not American. And to the question about throwing rocks at each other, well it is the throwers fault. That is like saying if I launch a missile into a city it was the missiles fault and not the country. Like blaming the damn planes for 9/11.

I came into this forum on a search but I have heard people from the US say “why do people hate us” before and it always gives me a sad feeling.

Start off with the reality– the world does not hate the US, people hate strangers having control over them and dictating any facet of their daily lives. The US is the premium power in the world at this point in time so people will always fight against it, bring it down and advance their own freedom. Check out history – it is always the same.

In my country (Australia) there is a seriously deep affection for Americans, the US immigrants have fitted in well and often become prominent and contributed a huge amount to the country. However if I look at the wasteland of our rural areas with deserted towns servicing huge farms and populated mainly by old people who do I blame. YOU. You and your farm subsidies. When I look at a Free Trade Agreement that virtually bans Australian television (and thus local culture) in a few years time who do I blame. YOU.

I can't discern between the different political themes in the US, I know hardly anything about the culture. I don't know what is going on or how people think. I am only looking at it from my perspective and seeing a threat that I label “America”. 49% of people in your country probably fear the same thing I do except I say America instead of Democrats or Republicans (whichever one current government is - Bush and the neocons – see I don't even understand your basics).

Yep – so my job as a father and an Australian is to protect my kids and their kids and their kids from you. I bet the person who proposed this question never bothered to sit down and think about it like it is.

This is all a bit simplistic but I am trying to make a point.

So that sounds like a criticism. Not at all, just reality. It is a massive concentration of power that needs to be reduced (some people reading this might beg to differ) but saying that I would ask what nation has ever achieved such a concentration of power and behaved with such dignity and grace as the US has. Instead of beating yourself up compare yourselves to what went on in the European expansion, how the Ming and Roman empires behaved or how China will behave in the future.

Your nation has put in place democracy, it has helped create a mercantile system in the world that is mind boggling compared to even a few hundred years ago and it has put together some amazing technology. In 1000 years time when they look at this time period in history they will probably label it “American Civilisation”.And when it all comes down to it your greatest asset is that people trust the US, we know you are snakes but you are less snakelike then virtually any other country.

I have a question of my own – you lot and your banks rebuilt Europe after the WW2. Their guaranteed destiny was 3rd world status. How come they never say thank you. If Argentina had done that for them would they have been grateful? Why?

I think that The World hates America because America believes that they know whats best for everyone. Even though other counrtries may need the help of America, American sometimes over do what they believe is best. They become a dictorship for the world. This makes other countries hate them.

Another reason why they might do this is because of the war in Iraq. In todays News world, the news that President Bush may send more troops over to Iraq to fight a war that was never meant for him to be apart of.

I believe the reason why the world hates American is because, at the moment American fells the need to always be right, and on top. President Bush has more enmies then friends, also he's getting into war with other countries for his poor decision making. American boost about all the opportunity it gives, but still there's multiple of people with no homes, jobs, funding, and all the essentialy needs they have.
