Are you looking for an issue framework?  Do you have an issue framework that you, your group, or your students have created and you would be willing to share with others?

You can use this thread (or start a new one of your own) to share your issue framework or ask others if they know where you can find what you are looking for.

Simply want to know the issues that are in the hopper for 2010.  Do you know?

Thanks

Hi Tom,

The issue books that I know of that are in production include:

- An updated issue book about the U.S. Role in the World

- An issue book with the working title: "Opening Doors in Higher Education: Who Gets in, Who Moves on?"

- An issue book about childhood drinking (ages 9-15 years)

At the moment, those are the ones I know about.

Hi Sue,

Yes, there are people in the country in addition to those listed in the "NIF Network Contacts" who are convening and moderating forums.  The best way to find out who might be in your area is to get in touch with the NIF Network Contact on that webpage listing ("NIF Network Contacts") who is located closest to you.  They may be able to let you know what's been going on in your part of the country.  But if it turns out that there isn't anyone holding forums in your area, that just means that you are that much more needed.

Network Contacts are also people/institutions who hold workshops to help people who are interested in knowing more about convening and moderating forums.  Attending a workshop is probably the best way to get started and to connect with others.  You can ask your nearest Network Contact when they will be holding a workshop, or, if you are able to travel a bit, you can keep an eye on the NIF Calendar webpage for an upcoming workshop to attend.

Best of luck to you.

Hello, I am part of a group of BSN students that have written a position on Entry level into nursing. Many are wanting to change the entry level to require a master's degree. It is our belief that this would cause and increase in the cost of care, increase the already growing nursing shortage and ther have been no studies that indicate any improvment in patient outcomes.
We are looking for a forum to share our position.
Thank you for your time and consideration

The International Symposium on Cultural Diplomacy 2011

Hard Vs. Soft Power in Local and Global Politics: Redefining Concepts of Power and Influence in an Age of Interdependence, Digital Revolution, and Social Media

(Berlin, 11th-15th May 2011)

http://www.culturaldiplomacy.org/academy/index.php?en_conferences_the-international-symposium-on-cultural-diplomacy-2011

The change over the past two decades from an international system based on independent nation states to an interdependent world facing global challenges has been widely explored and analyzed. At the level of international relations the change is accompanied by a growing understanding of the importance of global public goods. Activity to tackle climate change, for example, can no longer be pursued by individual states acting alone. Similarly, issues that have traditionally been considered of domestic concern have been given an international dimension: national policies on immigration, healthcare, education, and economics must increasingly be coordinated with international partners.

In addition to the changes outlined above, a further development can be identified in national and international politics: Digital communication technologies and social media are revolutionizing the interaction between politicians and citizens. For politicians, new technologies are providing an easier, cheaper way of informing a broad range of people about new policies, opinions, and initiatives. For citizens, the diverse range of media that have emerged as a result of technological advancements means that they can keep up-do-date with developments around the world, in real time. Combined, these developments mean that interaction between politicians and citizens is intensified. Moreover, the information is flowing in two directions: Campaigns and initiatives launched from the blogosphere can be seen to influence the presentation of policy decisions, but also the policies themselves. In countries where traditional media are state controlled, social media have become a valuable mechanism to organize and execute protests, and express the “mood of the nation”.

The International Symposium on Cultural Diplomacy 2011 is being hosted to analyze these two developments: The sharing of power and responsibility horizontally, across national barriers, and vertically, between politicians and citizens.
